HogBall @ BAMA

Score: 106

Edited on: January 27, 2012 3:09 am

12:30pm CT, January 28   Arkansas (15-5, 3-2) @ Alabama (13-7, 2-4)
Coleman Coliseum

Don't let the standings fool you, Bama is better than their 4-game SEC losing streak indicates.  All of them were close - with three being on the road, two to ranked UK (77-71) and State (56-52), with the home loss being to second-place Vandy (69-59).  Still, the buzz on Alabama radio (Finebaum) this week says the team has issues - one being Grant's not earning his $3 million/year salary aimed at getting them to the NCAAs regularly.

Neiswanger - Waithe Doubtful for Auburn with Calf Injury

Coverage
SEC/ESPN3: likely only on local SECnetwork, and NOT blacked-out by ESPN3
hoGme-cooking:  Arkansas Radio Network > usually online at KLAZ 105.9FM

January 25:  Arkansas 56 - Auburn 53
Bud Walton Arena Attendance:  11,350 actual / 12,794 official

I suspect Aubie at home won't be a given with a doubtful Waithe and banged-up BJ, both suffered during the Michigan win.  The Tigers have yet to win on the road since conference play began - losing to LSU in OT and being blown out by Vandy and FSU.

After watching Arkansas play two in a row before crowds of around 20,000, got curious about arena capacities in the expanded SEC.  Already knew the top ones are among the largest basketball arenas in the nation, but a little surprised at the new guys.

Walking on Sunshine:  Pursuing The Elite

January 21:  Arkansas 64 - #20 Michigan 62
Bud Walton Arena Attendance:  total sell-out (capacity ~ 19,368)

While this CBS nationally-televised game against ranked Michigan (coming off a 60-59 home win over MSU) is big, the real story for Razorback Nation on Saturday may well be football.  A projected sold-out arena will witness, not only a pair of storied programs going at it, but also a halftime show featuring an official presentation of the 2012 AT&T Cotton Bowl Championship trophy to the Razorbacks football team.

Perhaps more importantly for the immediate future of Arkansas athletics is what the twenty football recruits - some of the highest ranked in the nation - come away thinking about the whole affair.  Win or lose the game... Saturday's success will be be guaged more on whether Dalton Santos and DGB sign with Arkansas ten days afterward.

Anatomy of Hogs' Road Woes

Score: 138
January 19, 2012 1:20 am
Edited on: January 19, 2012 1:20 am

This one's worth a dedicated post all its own -

Harris says tongue in cheek...
Consider turning off the tube when Arkansas is on the road, because the season will continue to go the way it has through four SEC games:  fun to watch when the Razorbacks are in the friendly confines of Bud Walton Arena, and a miserable experience to sit through when the Hogs take to the road.
In the Comments section below is the full article, which likely will remain here long after the linked version is pulled.  What's not shown below that would be a good read are the comments under same article over at arkansassports360.  Like 'em or hate 'em - they create a nice backdrop for the crux of this.

What say you?
